- Use headings (H1, H2, H3, etc.) to create a hierarchical structure.
- Logical grouping of content and clear labeling of sections improve user experience
5. Navigation menu
- Navigation menus help users move around the website
- Use clear and concise labels for menu items
- Consider using dropdown menus for complex sites
Web standards
The central organization who is responsible for creating and maintaining web standards is the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).
How the web works
- When you visit a website, the web server hosting that site could be anywhere in the world
- In order for you to find the location of the web server, your browser will first connect to a Domain Name System (DNS) server
1. When you connect to the web, you do so via an ISP. You type a domain name or web address into your browser to visit a site
2 DNS servers are a network of servers that your computer communicates with. They inform your computer of the IP address linked to the requested domain name, much like a phone book would. Every online device has a distinct IP address, which is comparable to that computer's phone number.
3. The distinct number that your computer receives from the DNS server enables your browser to get in touch with the web server hosting the requested website. A web server is a computer that is always online and configured specifically to provide webpages to users.
4. The web server then sends the page you requested back to your web browser
Structure of a web page:
1. Understanding structure
2. Learning about markup
3. Tags and elements
- We come across all kinds of documents everyday; newspapers, insurance forms, catalogues etc
- Many web pages act like electronic versions of these documents
- In all kinds of documents, structure is very important in helping readers to understand the messages we are trying to convey and to navigate around the document
2. INSTRUCTIONS
3. PROPOSAL
4. FEEDBACK
In creating our project 1 website proposal, we first needed to show our chosen "bad website" to Mr. Shamsul before we can proceed on making the proposal. I struggled a little when searching for the right bad website to redesign, but after some time, I had some options to pick from. I showed all options to Mr. Shamsul before he finally accepted on one website I can proceed my task with.
5. REFLECTION
Experience :
While working on making my website proposal, there were many observation done as we needed to analyze all pages, noting down the pros and cons of its original website before moving into redesigning it. As I analyze, I finally made a color choices and wireframe on how I plan on redesign it.
Observations :
It is important to fully look into and understand the website to be able to make a clear plan on redesigning it. Looking into colors, fonts, and layout used in the original website. After we have finish analyzing, It is also important to search for reference ideas in order to plan out your website design look.
Findings :
There were many aspects that could be improved from the original website, for example, their interactions / navigations, design, color choices as well as the font used. The put down too much information in most of their pages which made them look too crowded and less interesting to look into. Therefore, as I redesign this website, I also plan on simplifying their description / information as well as designing the overall look with a more modern design and a full functioning interactions.
